Biography

Yihui Wang is a student at the School of Vocal Studies and Opera at the RNCM. He began learning piano and vocal music at 7. At the age of 11, he started learning Bel Canto with Professor Luna Fang and Professor Xiaohui Li and was trained as a lyric tenor. He has also been a documentary and wildlife photographer for 7 years.
Yihui’s career began with the choir, he was the leading singer in the choir of his primary school, secondary school, and high school. He was invited to the choral music recording for the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games opening and closing ceremonies representing his high school and Jiangsu Province, where he also performed at with his choir. During his tenure of head boy, student principle and photographer at his high school choir, Yihui and his choir members won the special prize in provincial choral competition in 3 consecutive years. In year 2016, he led his choir to participate in the China International Choir Festival and won the international 2nd prize. Yihui participated in the 2017 Vancouver International Vocal Competition and won the 1st prize of the adult group. In year 2019, he won the silver award of the adult group at Osaka International Vocal Competition.
Yihui has been studying in High School Affiliated to Nanjing Normal University and has a great interest in history and English literature. He won the 1st place in the country in the 2017 annual vocal audition of Chinese high school students and was accepted by both Peking University and East China Normal University. He came to the UK for his career at vocal study and Bel Canto after graduated from high school. During his first year at the University of Sheffield, he was a member and photographer at the University of Sheffield Chamber Choir. In 2019, he was accepted by the RNCM and transferred to the RNCM for further study. He is currently studying with Peter Wilson at the RNCM, where he has also become a member of the RNCM Opera Chorus. Recently, Yihui has become the student digital ambassador and photographer at the RNCM.
